Quality Indicators

District
• The District has earned National Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission.
• Eleven Magnet Academies provide a strong core curriculum enhanced with extensive course work in one of the following disciplines - academic excellence, communication arts, fine arts, international studies, languages, mathematics, pre-engineering technology and health professions, science and technology, and traditional studies.
• Unique learning experiences are offered at the Fine Arts Center, Roper Mountain Science Center and Washington Center.
• Schools across Greenville County offer the International Baccalaureate Primary, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs.

Schools
• Thirteen schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education.
• Seventeen schools have been awarded the “Palmetto’s Finest Award,” presented annually to South Carolina’s top schools.
Students
• Students continue to outperform their state counterparts on the SAT, with an average score of 1503 compared to a state average of 1479. The national average is 1511.
• About 92 percent of District graduates pursue higher education.
• 81.4 percent of high school seniors passed the High School Exit Exam and qualified for a high school diploma.

Teachers and Staff
• 98 percent of teachers are highly qualified content experts.
• GCS boasts 500 National Board Certified Teachers – more than 31 states.
• GCS employees like other professionals are required to have a college degree or certification for their jobs.
• 58.5 percent of teachers have advanced degrees.
• Our professional teaching staff has an average of 11.5 years of experience.

Community
• Over 823,000 hours are volunteered by more than 73,000 volunteers in District schools each year.
• The District has the largest PTA District in South Carolina, with 30 percent of the state PTA membership while having 10.6 percent of the state’s students.
• District 1 PTA (Greenville County) raises over $3 million annually.
• GCS boasts 28 National PTA Schools of Excellence for Parental Involvement and one school earned the Phoebe Apperson Hearst NPTA Excellence in Partnership award.
• The President of National PTA is a GCS Board Member.
